Membership of the Initiative

Leadership Council 2009

We are pleased to announce new members have joined the GNPI Leadership Council. The Leadership Council provides strategic direction, leadership, and accountability to ensure the short-term and long-term success of the GNPI. This Council represents both continuity and fresh perspective, as we welcome a handful of members from the Phase I Steering Committee and a number of new leaders to the table.

We have confirmed the organizational structure of the GNPI for the Implementation Phase of the project, which branches out into four sub-groups: Business & Finance; Human Resource Capacity Building; Integration, Inclusion & Innovation; and Aboriginal Relations & Engagement. There are a number of advisory and work groups within the four areas, and we are currently looking to populate these groups. Please see the our Recruitment page on our website for more information on the various teams and how to get involved.

The initial phase of the Government/Non-Profit Initiative included a Steering Committee and Three Task Forces:

Steering Committee (February 2008 – February 2009)

The Government/Non-Profit Initiative Steering Committee and Task Forces each involved two co-chairs, one from each sector, and 16-18 senior executives split evenly between the two sectors. The Steering Committee provided leadership, direction, and cohesion to this Initiative.

The Steering Committee is co-chaired by:

  • David Morhart, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor-General
  • Faye Wightman, President and CEO, Vancouver Foundation

Task Forces (February 2008 – November 2008)

The Task Force Members were an integral part of shaping this Initiative. Members brought their expertise to advise on strategies for improving the Government/Non-Profit relationship.

Capacity Building Task Force Co-chairs:

  • Derek Sturko – Assistant Deputy Minister, Housing and Social Development
  • Teri Nicholas – Executive Director, Family Services of Greater Vancouver

Working Together Task Force Co-chairs:

  • Jennifer Charlesworth - Executive Director, Federation of Child and Family Services of BC
  • Heather Dickson - Assistant Deputy Minister, Labour Market Transition Office, Ministry of Housing and Social Development

Procurement, Funding, Performance Measurement Task Force Co-chairs:

  • Tung Chan – Chief Executive Officer, United Chinese Community Enrichment Services Society (S.U.C.C.E.S.S.)
  • Sarf Ahmed – Assistant Deputy Minister, Management Services, Ministry of Children and Family Development

The Steering Committee and Task Forces were supported by a Secretariat of researchers, a policy lead for each Task Force and project staff.

Participants

The Government/Non-Profit Initiative would like to acknowledge the hundreds of participants who have brought enthusiasm, energy, and insights to this Initiative. There has been rich representation from various ministries, non-profit organizations, sub-sectors, and communities which has helped to ensure this Initiative is inclusive of many different perspectives.

The following lists name the participants who were involved in our milestone events:

We would also like to acknowledge the nearly 700 participants, who took part in Regional Focus Group Consultations (Abbotsford, Fort St. John, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Nelson/Castlegar, Prince George, Prince Rupert, Vancouver, and Victoria) or the online survey in the fall of 2008. The input gathered from these consultations is invaluable to the success of this Initiative.
